What a private jet charter costs

A charter is priced as hours in the air multiplied by that aircraft's hourly rate, where the billed hours are whichever is greater: the flight time, or the operator's minimum. US domestic flights add 7.5% Federal Excise Tax. A return trip adds either a two-hour daily minimum plus about $1,200 a night for crew while the aircraft waits, or the cost of a second one-way if it is released.

Prices below are for the whole aircraft, from Teterboro (TEB) or anywhere else you need to leave from.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

The ones we are actually asked, answered properly. Where a figure depends on your aircraft or your dates, we say so rather than rounding it off.

Can a Gulfstream G650 or a Global 7500 land at Teterboro?

Yes — and the way this is usually explained online is wrong. Teterboro's limit is 100,000 lb of actual gross weight, not maximum take-off weight (Port Authority Air Terminal Rules, Section XVI, 2.1.7). The distinction decides the answer.

A G650 has an MTOW of 99,600 lb, so it is under the limit outright. A G650ER (103,600 lb), G700 (107,600 lb) and Global 7500 (114,850 lb) are all above it on paper — and all operate at Teterboro regularly, by certifying an operating weight under 100,000 lb for that flight. The form, plus weight-and-balance sheets for both the arrival and the departure, goes to the Airport Manager and your FBO 72 hours ahead, with written confirmation at least 24 hours out. Routine paperwork, not a favour.

Where it actually bites is departure fuel. Maximum landing weights for these aircraft run 83,500–87,600 lb, comfortably under the limit, so arriving is rarely the problem. Leaving Teterboro under 100,000 lb can mean less fuel than a long transatlantic leg wants — which is how a nonstop quietly becomes a fuel stop. We check that against your actual passenger and baggage load before proposing the aircraft, not after.

Which New York airport should I use?

Teterboro (TEB) for Manhattan in almost every case — five FBOs, twelve miles out, and it exists for private flights. Westchester (HPN) if you are heading for Greenwich, Connecticut or northern Westchester; shorter drive, and it avoids the Hudson crossings entirely. Morristown (MMU) is the quiet answer for northern and central New Jersey, with one advantage the others do not have: no curfew of any kind, plus customs on the field.

JFK and Newark are for connecting onto a scheduled flight. Both are slot-controlled, general-aviation parking is scarce and expensive, and nothing about the experience resembles an FBO. LaGuardia allows only three general-aviation reservations an hour and is rarely worth the trouble.

Is there a curfew? Can I depart late at night?

Not a legal one at Teterboro — but do not read that as "no constraint". The 2300–0600 restraint on non-essential flights is voluntary; the departure noise limits are not. They are measured at monitoring sites — 80 dB(A) on Runway 24 between 2200 and 0700, 95 dB(A) on the others — and exceeding a limit by more than 1.0 dB(A) is recorded as a violation. Violations stay on the aircraft's record for two years, and three in two years bans that aircraft from the airport. There is no fine; the penalty is losing access. Operators take it seriously, and so do we when we pick the tail.

Westchester has no mandatory curfew either — its 0000–0630 restraint programme is voluntary, and the airport states plainly that it cannot penalise operators. Morristown has no curfew at all. If your schedule is genuinely open-ended, that is the field to ask about.

Can I take a helicopter into Manhattan?

Yes. As of October 2026, on-demand helicopter charter to the Manhattan heliports is legal and operating, and the hop from Teterboro takes minutes rather than the 45 to 90 you should budget for the same trip by car at the wrong hour. West 30th Street and the Downtown Manhattan Heliport are the practical two for a jet transfer; East 34th Street is weekday-daytime only.

Two honest caveats. Weather cancels a meaningful share of helicopter movements, more so in winter — so it is a good plan with a car as the fallback, not a plan to build a meeting around. And the policy picture is live: from 1 December 2029 the two city-owned heliports will require Stage 3 noise compliance for non-essential flights, with further bills pending. Nothing in force today would stop your transfer.

What happens at customs on an international arrival?

Teterboro is a landing rights airport, not a port of entry — which has a practical consequence: permission is not automatic. Landing rights must be requested at least two hours before you depart the foreign airport, and the permission carries a ±30 minute tolerance; drift outside it and it has to be re-secured. Inspection runs seven days, 0730–2315, on the North Side or at Jet Aviation, and passenger flights only — cargo cannot be processed there.

Morristown is a user-fee airport with CBP on site weekdays 0800–1600 and otherwise by appointment. Westchester has customs badged at two of its FBOs. We file the request and hold the tolerance against your real departure time, because this is the most common way a smooth international trip turns into an hour sitting on the ramp.

Can I fly private to the Hamptons?

Yes, and the airport choice is a performance question rather than a preference. East Hampton — now JPX, formerly HTO — has a 4,255 ft runway, which rules out a good deal of the fleet, and operates under town procedures including a 2200–0700 night curfew. Westhampton (FOK) has 9,002 ft and takes essentially anything. Republic (FRG) serves western Long Island well.

In season the honest comparison is against a helicopter: Manhattan to the Hamptons runs 35–40 minutes in the air, against a summer Friday drive that can pass three hours. We will tell you which of the three fields your aircraft can actually use before you commit to the weekend.

Does UN General Assembly week affect private flights?

It does, though not the way people expect — there is no slot or prior-permission scheme at Teterboro for the week. What changes is the airspace. Temporary flight restrictions ring Manhattan and the heliports, general aviation can be shut out of JFK on peak days, and designated gateway airports with their own screening are used for heliport access. Teterboro itself stays reachable on an active flight plan with a discrete transponder code and two-way contact.

The binding constraints that week are ramp and parking saturation, routing delays and price — not permission. The practical move is to position the aircraft out after dropping you and bring it back for the departure, rather than holding a scarce ramp spot for days.

How much does it cost to charter a private jet from New York?

It depends on three things, and the estimator above works out all three for your own trip: how far it is, which classes can fly it nonstop with your party on board, and how many hours that comes to. Beyond the aircraft itself, what moves the final figure is where the aircraft has to come from — positioning is often the single largest line and has nothing to do with your route length — the date, and whether a return keeps the aircraft on the ground in between rather than releasing it. We confirm a firm all-in price trip by trip.

Where can you fly a private jet from New York?

Worldwide. The most requested are Miami, Los Angeles, London, Paris and Dubai, and charters are arranged from New York to any city. One route-planning note worth knowing: westbound legs fly into the jet stream, so New York to Los Angeles takes longer than the return, and a midsize jet that crosses the country nonstop eastbound will usually want a fuel stop going west. The estimator prices each direction separately rather than averaging them.

How soon can you arrange it?

Often within a few hours, and frequently same-day. The things that genuinely need lead time are the ones above: the Teterboro weight certification at 72 hours, customs landing rights at two hours before your foreign departure. For the fastest reply, message us on WhatsApp or call the desk.
